Ginetta’s first major success was its G4 model, unveiled in 1961. Aimed more specifically at the Club racing enthusiast than the kit car crowd, the G4, with its new Ford engine became a highly-regarded machine, proving itself capable even against well-established Manufacturers such as Jaguar. Reputation quickly translated into results and the motoring press and fans welcomed the exciting new player in the field, leaving Ginetta firmly part of the Club racing scene.
The G4’s success inspired designer Ivor Walklett to keep the quality coming – the G15 and Chrysler-powered G21 models ensuring that Ginetta remained a respected name in the world of Club Motorists, focussing on innovative and affordable machines for the amateur enthusiast.
Several classic sports racing cars followed in the form of the G12, G22 and legendary G10, a powerful 4.7 litre V8 Masterpiece with a top speed of over 150mph. By the ‘80’s Ginetta turned to its kit car roots with a new G4 model, the G27, and later a range of sports saloons. These designs were highly successful and in the V8 G33 Ginetta was again able to bring a very affordable high performance sports car to the marketplace of the decade.
Three of the Walklett brothers retired in 1989 whilst Ivor stayed at the company until 1992. The Company is currently owned by a group of international businessmen enthusiasts and continues to focus on creating high-quality affordable sports cars.
Ginetta became a part of LNT Automotive in late 2005. LNT consolidated its operations under one roof in 2007 with a new 72,000 square foot facility dedicated to new programmes.
